Franco Civai has been a collaborator of the Italian running magazine "Podismo" for years and today is one of the most important statisticians in Italy. After a long and exhausting research in runners' finishing time he recently published his first work, a book in which he examines with precision the growing phenomenon of the marathon in Italy, from 1987 to 1997. Part of the Centopelli series of running publications, the book contains a complete ten year history of Italian marathons and runners, from the Rome World championships to the Athens World championships. The extensive data research includes all the performances of Italian athletes, men under 2:20.00 hours and women under 2:55.00 hours in the past ten years. In addition to the main chapter Civai has included other interesting information, such as all the athletes that represented Italy in world marathon meetings, the fastest Italian marathon courses, the best performances obtained in Italian races, the progression of the Italian marathon record and much more. To make research easier for marathon fanatics an alphabetical list of all the athletes quoted in the book is also included. The book is in Italian with an English introduction to each chapter, and is easily understood by English speaking readers.
